Wildcats Too Much for Green
Congratulations go out from the corner to Saint Ignatius' deep and skilled varsity lacrosse team, which on Saturday afternoon dominated Green, 16-3, in the OHSLA playoff round of 32.
The Wildcats (10-3) treated their faithful at Wasmer Field to an outstanding all-around performance, especially defensively, as they rolled to a 13-1 lead by halftime. Under the OHSLA 12-or-more-goals advantage rule, the entire second half was played with a running clock. Saint Ignatius, which controlled the faceoffs, scored seven of its goals in a four-minute span.
In advancing to the state-playoff round of 16, the Wildcats will travel to either Jackson on May 23rd with faceoff scheduled for 7:30pm.
2012 Regular Season Concludes With Win at St. Edward
The St. Ignatius varsity lacrosse team wrapped up the regular season in dramatic fashion on Thursday, May 10th at St. Edward. Down by a score of 4-3 at half, the Wildcats exploded offensively in the second half with 10 goals to earn a 13-5 victory. The Cats scored 11 unanswered goals spanning the parts of the second quarter through the fourth quarter. The team was led by Senior Attackman, Matt Kovesdy, and Sophomore Midfielder, Jake Muruna, who both scored 4 goals and each had an assist. Joining in on the scoring were Brett Hornoung (2g), Danny Hennessy (1g, 5a), Joseph Garrett (1g), and Michael Saragusa (1g).
The lacrosse team finishes the regular season with a record of 9 wins and 3 losses. The varsity team has allowed an average of 5.5 goals per game which ranks 3rd in the State of Ohio for Division 1 behind Dublin Jerome (3.76 Goals/Game) and Centerville (5 Goals/Game). The Cats finished third in their region and will host the winner of Shaker Heights versus Green play-in game on Saturday, May 19th. Game time is tentatively set for 2:00 PM.
Registration is now open for 2012 Youth Lacrosse Camp
Registration is now open for the 2012 Youth Lacrosse Camp. We have expanded the camp to 4 days on June 25 - 28 from 5pm - 8pm each evening. The camp will be split up by skill and then age which will allow more intense skill development. We will also end each session with a scrimmage on the turf field. Please keep in mind that in order to particpate in the scrimmage each camper will need to provide their own full equipment. Please click here to register for the camp.

Varsity Team Visits The Village Network - Boys Village Campus in Wooster, OH
On Saturday March 10th the varsity team embarked on there first journey of the season. They boarded a bus for the one hour drive to Wooster, OH to practice, scrimmage and most importantly conduct a clinic for 54 residents of the Village campus. The team put on a scrimmage to introduce the residents of TVN to the game of lacrosse and then conducted a clinic on passing, catching and shooting. After the clinic the team enjoyed a lunch with the residents and staff of the TVN. The experience was an amazing one for all involved and we greatly appreciate the kindness and generosity that TVN extended to the team. To learn more about TVN please visit The Village Network.
Wildcats onto the Next Level
Brett Hornung '12 has announced his commitment to Marquette University for the 2012 - 2013 lacrosse season. Marquette will play its first men's lacrosse season in the spring of 2013 as an NCAA Division I independent. Marquette will then become a full member of the BIG EAST Conference in men's and women's lacrosse beginning with the 2014 season.
